Catwoman is a villian but she had her own movie… Close
close, but sadly that’s a movie that’s often swept to the side with other superhero/villian “failures”. the hulk movies come to mind when i say this (which truthfully aren’t great), or even elektra, which i think is a great film but again is pushed aside (because she’s a woman? or not really a “superhero” per se, but an assassin who turns good? i’m leaning towards the former). i think if there was a black widow movie, though, it would get far more publicity because of her roles in both iron man 2 and the avengers. but, her origin movie would probably be more like electra’s in the sense that black widow starts out as an assassin as well.
TL;DR: the black widow movie would have to be highly publicized (there’s really no way around it) and i believe would inevitably be more successful than catwoman/elektra/any other movies of the like (if there are any?), making it a huge deal and a great stride for women in this genre

i was just sitting here thinking how huge that would be not only for our society as a whole, but for scarlett as well
like she would go down in history as the first female superhero to star in her own movie; THAT IS SO HUGE
